Cathy Campos — Rebuilding Strength & Confidence Ahead of Surgery

Dartmouth | Mid-60s | Living with Multiple Sclerosis & Awaiting Knee Replacement

Background

Cathy is a resilient Dartmouth local in her mid-60s, navigating life with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) while preparing for left knee replacement surgery. Determined to move with strength and ease, she knew that building confidence and functional capacity before surgery would be essential.

The Challenge

Living with MS brings unique fatigue and mobility hurdles, and the added complexity of a pending joint replacement heightened the need for a carefully structured program. Cathy began her journey with a sense of uncertainty—stuff like lifting a modest 12 kg kettlebell felt taxing, and energy was limited.

The Poseidon Performance Approach

Nicholas Martin-Jones designed Cathy a bespoke six-session progression plan that balanced:

  • Safe progressive overload to rebuild lower-body strength

  • Whole-body conditioning to counteract MS-related fatigue

  • Attention to breathing & posture to enhance movement quality

Each session was tailored to Cathy’s daily energy and recovery state.

Results in Six Sessions

  • Improved from 12 kg kettlebell lifts to 45 kg on the trap-bar

  • Enhanced lower-body strength, stability, and overall conditioning

  • Legs now feel stronger, full-body control has improved

  • Noticeable benefits in posture and breathing mechanics

  • Increased energy levels and a renewed sense of confidence

Outcome

Cathy now faces her upcoming knee replacement not with apprehension, but with empowered preparedness. Her transformation underscores how individualized, strength-based rehabilitation can cultivate resilience—no matter your starting point.
